It just became 'storytime with Arin and Danny'. I've only watched a couple episodes in the past year or so, but there are next to no jokes about the game. GG went from a passion channel with video game humor to a money-farming channel playing whatever just came out.
I feel like everyone else is all smiles but they likely despise Arin and it's just a money thing at this point. I honestly feel like Arin just hard bullies people until he's the center of attention. I actually thought Dan was an okay replacement who settled into the role at a decent pace (just started Dan kinda sucked but he got much better). I honestly couldn't watch GG anymore after Jon left. I feel like Arin kind of needs a redemption arc at this point and a hard, hard humbling. Some things might not be SO bad but it is rather blatant that he's largely gone off the deep end when it comes to fame having gone to his head. I agree with what you put here basically completely. He's a selfish unfunny jerk trying to ride on his reputation, which is becoming worse and worse. He's convinced he's better than folk because he got lucky right off the bat at the start of the Internet age and convinced himself it's because he's just that much better than folk. Arin won't even countenance the idea she may have done something wrong and spent God knows how long raging at people for daring to be upset that his wife robbed them. She's also a scammer and sold what she advertised as 'special unique necklaces with gems she found herself' online for a bit until it was discovered that she 'found' the gems herself at CVS in a $5 kids' -elry making kit upon receiving the necklaces. When the actual gay people in the office said 'Yeah this game is really just - pandering to what they think gays are and not very cool', that started a hugeass fight that led to Oney et al moving out of the offices. She's also the driving force behind the Dream Daddy incident, in which a bunch of - game devs (her friends) went 'Let's make a SUPER QUEER dating sim in which you GAY at dudes!', and set up shop in the grumps office to do so. His wife (the only girl he's ever dated who he married right out of high school) started getting hugely into SJWism and bashed him with the NO YOU CAN'T SAY THAT hammer enough that he's lost anything resembling a spine. He's also utterly obsessed with spoiling the major plot points for Dan either 10 seconds before they happen or right at the beginning, ostensibly just to prove how smart he is and how much he knows about vidya everyone!!!1 Every time Dan gets interested or asks a question, he replies with utter dismissal and disinterest, completely shutting down any discussion and attempts to take any attention away from The Arin Show. He's a fake intellectual looking down his nose at everyone as the simple-minded sheep, enjoying things he's far too cultured to give a proper chance to. His absolute lack of coordination can't have ANYTHING to do with his lack of success, it's all everyone else's fault for liking such a stupid game! There's no way ignoring any information given to him while screaming that he doesn't need it could have ANY bearing when he doesn't know what to do. No, there's absolutely no way he's being an absolute idiot.
That's really a good part of the core of it, he's just so smug about being completely wrong.
He then had to play said game for an audience, whereupon it was revealed that all of the complaints he makes are proven to stem from the fact that he's an incompetent idiot who can barely use a controller. He made a few videos on game design and is convinced that means he's the end-all be-all authority on it. He's so convinced that he can never be wrong it's turned him into the most patronizing asshole this side of a California university. When she tried to apologize on stream, he tried to shut it down and not let Ross accept the apology, his only defense to how many 'goddamnit ross' jokes he makes being 'it's different'.
He turned grumps into The Arin & Sycophants show by steamrolling anybody else's attempts to make it anything more than fart jokes to the point they all just shut up and let him do what he wants.Ī few months ago, he decided that a random Twitter user had offended him by making a 'goddamnit ross' joke, and deliberately set his fanbase to attack them. His comedy is now almost nonexistent, convincing himself that screeching at the top of his lungs about poop and his - and fart and peenuhs that he's forgotten anything else. The biggest problems folks have had with him are all ones that stem from his ego & how he treats people, not to mention his scamming attention whore of a wife who's been REEEing social justice down his ear for more than a decade and poisoning his relationships.
